<p>Many of you have written, texted and tweeted because word got out about my run-in with a deer early Sunday morning on my way back from Kentucky Speedway.
The one good thing is I'm okay. The deer, on the other hand, not so good. It was a young male buck with developing horns.
Luckily, I hit him on an angle, so it was more of a glancing blow. Had it been one second later, the front end would probably be obliterated.
Still, the damage was bad enough, probably about $2,000 worth, I'm guessing.
The hit was a hard impact, and I saw the deer go flying afterward. I didn't stop because I was too shaken up. I also was afraid to stop and look at the damage, so I drive 20 miles until I got to a town so I could call police to make out a crash report.
All in all, it could have been worse, so I consider myself blessed and fortunate. As for the deer, I hope someone is enjoying venison stew.
