If you're a NASCAR fan, no matter where you live, the circus has just come to town.
With the news that Danica Patrick will be racing full-time in the Nationwide Series in 2012 and then jump full-time to the Sprint Cup Series in 2013 – the worst-kept secret in NASCAR prior to Thursday's official announcement – you will soon see a new look to the sport.
And don't be surprised if it has a strong P.T. Barnum flavor to it.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, come one, come all to see the biggest curiosity NASCAR has ever had. Part woman, part race car driver. Something you won't see anywhere else. Hurry, hurry, hurry!"
If you think Dale Earnhardt Jr. drove the biggest marketing and PR campaign in the sport up to now, being chosen NASCAR's most popular driver eight years in a row (soon to be nine, more than likely), you haven't seen anything yet. Danica Mania is going to soon overtake NASCAR.
But there's no truth to the rumor that NASCAR will rename itself DANICAR.
Not yet, at least.
